Life Insurance FAQ | Haight Insurance Solutions
Clear answers to common life insurance questions including coverage options, costs, underwriting, and how the application process works.
What life insurance services do you offer?
I help individuals and families evaluate and secure the right protection for their needs. Services include term life insurance, whole life insurance, universal life insurance, mortgage protection insurance, final expense insurance, disability income insurance, and policy reviews. As an independent advisor, I help clients throughout Utah and across the U.S. compare top-rated carriers to find coverage that fits their goals and budget.
Do you charge for your services?
No. There are no fees for meeting with me or reviewing your options. I’m compensated by the insurance carriers if you choose to put coverage in place — and only if you decide it’s right for you.
Are you tied to one insurance company?
No. I’m an independent advisor, which means I compare policies from multiple top-rated insurance companies to help you find the coverage that best fits your goals and budget.
Do I really need life insurance?
Life insurance helps protect the people who depend on your income. It can provide financial support for expenses such as mortgage payments, childcare, education, or final expenses if something happens to you.
How much life insurance do I need?
The right amount depends on your income, debts, family needs, and long-term goals. A common starting point is 10-15 times your annual income, but every situation is different. I help clients evaluate their specific needs and build coverage that protects their family without overpaying.
How much does life insurance cost?
The cost of life insurance depends on factors such as age, health, coverage amount, and policy type. Many healthy individuals can obtain term life insurance for less than the cost of a daily cup of coffee.
When is the best time to buy life insurance?
The best time to buy life insurance is when you are young and healthy. Premiums are typically lower and approval is easier earlier in life.
What is the difference between term and whole life insurance?
Term life insurance provides coverage for a specific period (such as 10, 20, or 30 years) and is typically the most affordable option. Whole life insurance provides lifetime coverage and builds cash value over time.
How long does life insurance last?
Term life insurance provides coverage for a specific period, such as 10, 20, or 30 years. Permanent life insurance policies like whole life or universal life are designed to last for your entire lifetime as long as premiums are paid.
Is life insurance tax free?
In most cases, life insurance death benefits are paid to beneficiaries income tax-free. However, taxes may apply in certain situations, such as when interest is earned on the payout or in very large estates. It’s always a good idea to review the details with a qualified advisor.
Can I get life insurance if I have health issues?
In many cases, yes. Some insurers specialize in coverage for people with certain health conditions, and there are also no-medical-exam options depending on your situation.
Will I need a medical exam?
Not always. Many carriers offer no-medical-exam coverage depending on your age, health, and the type of policy. If an exam is needed, it’s quick, free, and done at your home.
How long does the process take?
Our first call is about 15 minutes. Most clients review options within a day or two and can move forward whenever they’re ready.
What if I already have a life insurance policy?
I can review your existing coverage to make sure it still fits your needs. Sometimes the best recommendation is to keep what you already have — and I’ll tell you that honestly.
Do you help with disability or long-term care planning?
Yes. I offer Disability Income Insurance to protect your paycheck and Long-Term Care solutions to help protect your retirement savings and future care needs.
What is the first step to getting life insurance?
The first step is a short consultation where we discuss your goals, family situation, and what you want to protect. I then compare options from multiple insurance companies and walk you through the best choices for your needs.
Will you pressure me to buy something?
Absolutely not. My role is to give you clear, transparent information so you can make confident decisions. You only move forward if and when you’re ready.
